The Room

Small, dark,
and on purpose

Nocturne is a basement on Spring Street with a door that has never had a sign on it. We seat forty-two and we do not take more than that, which means the room stays quiet enough to talk and the bartender has time to make your drink properly.

The bar is stocked for classics rather than trends. There is a written list, but most nights people tell us what they are in the mood for and we build from there. If you do not know what you like yet, that is the more interesting conversation anyway.

Come as you are, within reason. No sports on, no photographs of other guests, and phones on the table face down if you can manage it.

Saturday Nights

Live from nine

One act a night, two sets, no cover if you are seated before eight. The piano is a 1948 Steinway upright and it is played every week.

This Saturday Vera Lyle Trio

Vera Lyle Trio

Vocal jazz  ·  Saturday 2 August

Vera has held the first Saturday of the month here since we opened, backed by upright bass and brushes. The set leans on Billie and Nina, and the second one usually goes somewhere she did not plan.

The back room

There is a second room behind the bar. It seats fourteen, it is not on the reservation system, and the password changes every week.

What's the word?

Regulars get it by text on Tuesday. Everyone else can ask a bartender, or use this week's.

This week's word is nightingale. Demo only, nothing is sent.
